An antique sapphire and diamond ring. Featuring a cushion cut sapphire set in the centre of a navette shaped cluster. The cluster is formed as a plaque, set with twelve old cut diamonds, set in platinum. The diamonds sit on a detailed gallery, and lead to a tapered yellow gold band.
Plaque rings have been popular since the Georgian era, the large, flat surface was the perfect landscape for stones or symbolic decoration. The ring shape remained in favour through the Victorian era and had a surge of popularity during the Art Deco period.
