Micro Mosaic Swan Brooch

An antique, micro mosaic brooch. Depicting a scene of two swans swimming on water, with a red background and green reeds. The mosaic is surrounded by a yellow gold border, with beaded detailing, and three yellow gold triangular drops hang from the brooch. The brooch can also be worn as a pendant, and hangs from an adjustable v-shaped solid gold bail.
Micro mosaic was a technique developed by the Ancient Romans, and involves making impossibly small mosaics to be worn in jewellery. The practice was very popular in the 19th Century, especially as souvenirs of the Grand Tour. These swans are beautifully crafted, and in wonderful condition. A wearable piece of art.
